Methane activation on Ni and Ru model catalysts
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article reviews research related to the activation of methane by Ni and Ru using model catalysts, highlighting the surface science work carried out using molecular beams methods and elevated pressure reaction studies. Emphasis is placed on connecting the model studies of surface science with the corresponding results obtained on the analogous ‘real world’ catalysts. These combined studies have added considerable new information to our understanding of the fundamental mechanism of C–H bond activation, the nature of the subsequently formed intermediates and the role these intermediates play in important methane reactions such as steam reforming, partial oxidation and homologation. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Kinetic comparison of Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/MgO-Al2O3 nano structure catalysts in CO2 reforming of methane
The kinetic characteristics of the Ni/Al2O3 and Ni/MgO-Al2O3 catalysts were investigated in CO2 reforming of methane (CRM). The reaction orders (α and β) and the rate constant (k) were calculated using the non-linear regression analysis, in which the sum of the squared differences of calculated and experimental CO2 reforming of m...

Conversion of methane into higher hydrocarbons is a process of enormous technological importance, which would benefit from a better understanding of the nature of the surface intermediates formed during methane activation. Currently methane is converted into hydrocarbons mainly by an indirect route[1, 2] via syn gas[3] as the intermediate. Alternative routes, such as oxidative coupling of metha...
متن کاملEffect of K2O on the catalytic performance of Ni catalysts supported on nanocrystalline Al2O3 in CO2 reforming of methane
CO2 reforming of methane (CRM) over unpromoted and potassium promoted Ni/Al2O3 catalysts was studied. The catalysts were prepared by impregnation method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption (BET), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), temperature programmed oxidation (TPO) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques. The obtained results showed that addition of K2...
متن کاملMethane activation on ruthenium: the nature of the surface intermediates
The identification of surface intermediates is an important step in determining the mechanism of a reaction and in developing an in-depth understanding of a catalytic process. In this work the surface species formed during methane decomposition on idealized single-crystal Ru catalysts (using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, HREELS) are compared to the surface species identifie...
متن کاملRu-Ni CATALYST IN THE COMBINED DRY-STEAM REFORMING OF METHANE: THE IMPORTANCE IN THE METAL ORDER ADDITION
Biogas is one of the main biomass-energy resources. Its use for syngas production with a H2/CO ratio close to 2 would have huge environmental, social and economic impact in the actual energetic scenario. However, the use of dry reforming, where the two main components are transformed into syngas, does not allow the desired H2/CO ratio. For this reason, the addition of water is proposed. The pro...
